Jude L Capper, PhD ARAgS, Independent Livestock Sustainability Consultant

Vice Chair

Jude undertook her BSc (agriculture with animal science) and PhD (ruminant nutrition and behaviour) at Harper Adams University College, followed by post-doctoral research at Cornell University and a faculty position at Washington State University in the USA.  She is currently an independent Livestock Sustainability Consultant based in Oxfordshire.

Jude's research focuses on modelling the sustainability of livestock production systems. She is also currently working on projects looking at the national and global impacts of livestock health and welfare on system sustainability. Jude’s professional goal is to communicate the importance of factors affecting livestock industry sustainability to enhance the knowledge and understanding of food production stakeholders, from the farmer through to the retailer, policy maker and consumer. She has an active social media presence and spends considerable time de-bunking commonly heard myths relating to livestock production.

In 2017, Jude received the Women in Dairy “Dairy Industry Woman of the Year” award and, in 2018, the Farmers Guardian “Farming Hero of the Year” award, as well as Associate Membership of the Royal Agricultural Society.

Arthur Smart, Associate Director, Arup

Arthur is an experienced architect with global experience in master planning, cities and design practice. He currently co-leads Arup Urbanism in London and Sydney. He has significant expertise in leading public realm, master planning and strategic planning teams on complex sustainable development projects.

Before joining Arup, Arthur was Associate Director at Stirling Prize-winning Witherford Watson Mann Architects and has practised in the UK and Australia. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and has taught and lectured extensively in architecture, landscape and urbanism. Arthur is committed to supporting young designers, architects and the wider construction industry.

Dr Emma Wilcox, Chief Executive, Society for the Environment

Emma is the Chief Executive of the Society for the Environment, the chartered organisation responsible for the registration of environmental professionals. She has a strong academic research background as well as broad experience in business leadership, governance, strategy development, change management and small business delivery.  

Having established the Energy and Efficiency Industrial Partnership and played key roles in the creation of two Skills Academies, Emma has broad experience of the challenges and opportunities presented by apprenticeships. She is passionate about accessible education for all and recognises the critical role of education in addressing climate and environmental emergencies. 

Hannah Corcoran BSc (Hons) MSc MBA CEnv MCIEEM PIEMA CMgr MCMI, Associate Technical Director, Arcadis Consulting

Hannah is an Associate Technical Director at Arcadis Consulting. An Ecologist by trade and passionate environmentalist, she has worked in the consultancy industry for the last 15 years, leading major project delivery teams focusing on environmental and ecological requirements. Hannah’s background is heavily infrastructure-focused (specifically highways) but, in recent years, has branched out into the energy sector (nuclear).

During her career, Hannah has worked with many colleagues who have entered the profession via the apprenticeship route. She has witnessed first-hand the benefits apprenticeship programmes bring, not only to individuals but to project delivery and team dynamics.  At a time where a green recovery is absolutely critical following the COVID pandemic, Hannah is keen to play her part in ensuring that future apprenticeships deliver the green workforce the country needs. She hopes that her drive and motivation for long-term sustainable solutions, and desire to leave a positive legacy, will make a valuable contribution to the panel and its mission.

Mark Kenber, Managing Director, Orbitas

Mark has worked on environment, climate and energy issues for over two decades, in government, NGOs and the private sector. He is currently Managing Director of Orbitas, an initiative that aims to make investors and financiers aware of climate change and climate response risks to investments in tropical soft commodity production. Prior to that, he was Chief Executive of Mongoose Energy Ltd, the UK’s largest developer and manager of community energy projects, and spent 12 years at internationally renowned NGO, The Climate Group, including six as its Chief Executive.

Mark has worked across various areas of environmental and climate policy, with a particular focus on the use of economic instruments in the pursuit of sustainable development. His career has included spells at Fundación Natura in Quito, as climate change advisor to the Ecuadorian government, at WWF, supporting its international climate change programme, and as a lecturer at both the Catholic University in Quito and the Institute of Development Studies in the UK.

Mark is currently a board member of Community Energy England and Verra, and Chair of the Reneum Advisory Council and Brighton and Hove Energy Services Coop. His previous board memberships include the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change, Climate Policy Journal, the BP Carbon Advisory Panel and the Zurich Insurance Climate Advisory Board.

Paul Harmer, Lead Technical Consultant, CIPHE

Paul is a Chartered Engineer and technology innovator who supports the development of organisations through the creation of physical and digital innovation, with a strategic eye on the horizon.

Paul started out as an apprentice and has worked across various technology sectors in low carbon and renewable energy. He has a keen interest in government policy and how it shapes society. He is currently a member of the government’s Electrification of Heat Task Group, supporting the future decarbonisation of heat in UK buildings.

Tammy Bristow, Group Talent Manager, JCB

Tammy began her career as a business admin apprentice, working in sales, key account management, finance and HR, before finding her passion in learning and skills development. Over the last 16 years, she has gained extensive experience in the engineering and manufacturing sector, working with industry colleagues to develop and deliver a range of apprenticeship standards and technical qualifications to support the unprecedented change to deliver a carbon zero economy.

Tammy sees the role of the panel as vital in helping to define the apprenticeship standards that will secure the skills, knowledge and behaviours fundamental to enabling a green economy. Working to identify and shape ground-breaking occupations of the future is something she feels privileged to be part of.
