WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK at THE INSTITUTE?
By joining the Institute, you’ll join a group of passionate employees based across our two main sites in London and Coventry. You will help shape the organisation so that we meet the needs of employers, businesses, apprentices and students right across the UK.
Find out more about the work of the Institute in the ‘what we do’ page on this website.
While we are sponsored by the Department for Education, we are also led by an independent chair. This means we take pride in giving independent and impartial advice to the department, and to the sector. Set up in April 2017, we are a relatively new but fast-growing organisation - making this an exciting time to join us.
We are Civil Servants and have access to excellent terms and conditions:
- a first-class pension scheme
- occupational parental leave
- flexible working and part-time working are available in most roles
- free employee assistance programme
- cycle to work scheme
- eye care provision
- performance-related bonus scheme
- support with learning and development, and with funding professional qualifications if appropriate
But don’t take our word for it…
Our staff come from many different backgrounds and bring a hugely rich, yet diverse, set of skills and talents. Meet some of our employees below about what it’s like to work for the Institute:
“I joined the institute as an apprentice. Over the last few years, I have been fortunate enough to work with several fantastic teams and it’s a great place to be. In my current role, I’m working on the programme that will be delivering T Levels. It’s a very exciting time for the team as the first lot of T levels are due to launch this year! Knowing the impact T Levels will have on people’s lives, has made this work extremely rewarding.”
Henok Teklai, Programme management officer and ex-apprentice
“I joined the Institute in April 2017 at the start, and what a three years it has been! When I started there was only a handful of staff across both offices. I have made many friends over that time; I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Institute grow and look forward to seeing it get bigger and better.
I am the Coventry office manager and I love to help people with all types of requests. Lots of people call me the “go-to person” as I know where to direct people to.”
Amanda Steward, Coventry office manager
“Since joining the Institute as a disabled member of the team, I am really impressed by how I am encouraged to bring my true self to work. The passion and commitment to diversity and inclusion are not just words on a bit of paper here. The Institute really want to know how we can create an inclusive culture and are very open to challenge. As a stakeholder-led organisation, clear and honest conversations are key to how we work. I would absolutely recommend the Institute as a great place to work, which really is for everyone and anyone.”
