Occupational standards in scope (level 2, cycle 1)
The qualification categories in scope for Cycle 1 are:
level 2 occupational entry technical qualifications for 16-19 & adults
level 2 additional specialist technical qualifications for 16-19 & adults
The cycle 1 submission window is now closed.
For cycle 1 of the approval of level 2 technical qualifications, all level 2 standards in the following routes are in scope.

Key dates have been confirmed for the second phase of external quality assurance (EQA) transition for apprenticeship end point assessment organisations.
EQA monitors the end-point assessment that apprentices take at the end of their apprenticeship, to ensure that it is fair, consistent, and robust across different apprenticeship standards and between different assessment organisations.

New guidance available for applicants in next cycle of higher technical qualifications submissions

IfATE have today (29 November) made new guidance and resources available for the next cycle of Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs), due to open in Spring 2024.
The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) are the government body who work with employers to create and review apprenticeships and other technical qualifications.

Approvals process manual - level 2, cycle 1
As set out in DfE’s overview of the reforms, all new IfATE approved technical qualifications will be approved against an IfATE defined technical qualification category. Each category is distinct, with its own core aim and purpose statement, as well as its own bespoke criteria for approval.
