  • Withdrawal of approval from Technical Qualifications

    Background The Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 (ASCLA) requires IfATE to publish information about matters it takes into account when deciding whether or not to approve a technical qualification, or withdraw approval of it.   ASCLA also requires IfATE to maintain arrangements for reviewing approved technical qualifications and publish information about the intervals at which these reviews are to be conducted.

  • Glossary

    Accelerated apprenticeship - an accelerated apprenticeship is where the apprentice’s planned duration is shorter (by at least 3 months) than the typical duration of the occupational standard, based on prior learning. Minimum requirements of an apprenticeship must still be met, including the 12-month minimum duration and minimum volume of off-the-job training.
  • What is an occupational standard?

    An occupational standard is a description of an occupation. It contains an occupational profile, and describes the ‘knowledge, skills and behaviours’ (KSBs) needed for someone to be competent in the occupation’s duties.

    Apprentices must pass tests to complete their apprenticeships. EQA is the system for checking these EPAs are of high quality.
