Employer views requested around job security for apprentices and financial incentives geared at supporting recovery
Second in series of surveys will update the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (the Institute) amid the COVID-19 pandemic
Valuable employer feedback is being collected through a survey on the impact of COVID-19 on businesses and apprentices.
The Institute wants to learn more about redundancies and possible outcomes for furloughed apprentices, plus how we can we better sustain wider apprenticeships.
Employers of all sizes are also being asked for views on the package of financial support on offer from the government to encourage continued and additional engagement with apprenticeships.
These include the job retention bonus, a one-off payment of £1,000 to employers for every furloughed employee who remains continuously employed through to the end of January 2021 , and up to £2,000 payments for each new apprentice they hire.
This is the second in a series of employer surveys the Institute will be carrying out during the pandemic to help inform our thinking.
Chief executive at the Institute, Jennifer Coupland, said:
“Employers will be key to the continued success of apprenticeships, through the unprecedented challenges posed by COVID-19, so it’s vital that we are kept informed about the impact of support measures and what more can be done.
“I would urge as many employers as possible to take part in this survey and help us understand better what support is needed to ensure that apprenticeships play a vital role in the nation’s economic recovery.”
The first survey, held in June this year, generated around 350 responses.
A report on the responses provided a snapshot of the impact of COVID-19 and the lockdown on apprenticeships across different sectors.
