An adjustment has been applied to the assessment plan ST0041 v1.0 for this apprenticeship. The adjustment will run from 24/04/2023 and will run indefinitely until all apprentices registered to ST0041, v1.0 only, have completed their EPA and any required resits or retakes.
End-point assessment organisations (EPAOs) delivering EPAs for the apprenticeship will implement the adjustment, supported and monitored by the relevant EQA provider.
The key changes are:
Page 7, (Written Report) an increase to the range of qualified personnel who can verify the work described in the written report has been carried out by the apprentice.
Change from:
A registered member of a Professional Engineering Institution (IEng or CEng) who works with the apprentice will verify that the work described in the written report has been carried out by the apprentice.
To:
A Licentiate, Associate, Member or Fellow of CIBSE; or
Registered EngTech, IEng or CEng with any Engineering Council nominated institution; or
Professionally registered within the construction industry (CIOB, RICS, RIBA) who works with the apprentice will verify that the work described in the written report has been carried out by the apprentice.
There is a typographical error in the EPA:
Page 4 – Structured interview (informed by the written report) section says construction site technician in the right-hand box, this should read as building services engineering technician.
Planning and installing electrical and mechanical systems within buildings.
The occupation covered by this standard is Building Services Engineering Technician and typical job titles can include: Assistant Project Engineer, Assistant Engineer or Building Services Site Technician. In the case of SME building services engineering specialist contractors the roles are likely to include Assistant Project Managers, Project Managers and Site Managers. They are associated with the supervision of the installation’ commissioning or servicing of environmental technologies on construction projects and are based on construction sites with occasional time in offices.

The typical duration for this Apprenticeship is three years but this will depend upon the previous experience of the apprentice and access to opportunities to gain the full range of competence.
Individual employers will determine their own entry requirements, but the typical entry requirements for this Apprenticeship will be five GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths, English and a Science; or a Level 2 Apprenticeship.
The following qualification will be gained:
A Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment that meets the knowledge requirements of the standard and is approved by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers as meeting the educational requirements for EngTech LCIBSE
English and Maths at Level 2 will need to be achieved before taking the end point assessment and will form part of the Level 4 qualification.
This Apprenticeship will include the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to achieve Technician status with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (EngTech LCIBSE). The Technician Professional Review process for EngTech LCIBSE is included in the end-point assessment process for this Apprenticeship and will lead to the designatory letters EngTech LCIBSE and the status of Engineering Technician.
This Apprenticeship standard is at Level 4.
This Apprenticeship standard should be reviewed three years after approval of the standard.
